I apologize for the unusually poor sound quality. I was experimenting with a different recording setup, but the conversation was good enough that I didn't want to just throw it out.

Good times had at Trinoc*Con

Thanks to Mur Lafferty for reminding me that it was happening.

Playing Nero, a Live-Action-Role-Playing (LARP) Game, It was REEEEEEAAAALLLYYY geeky, but lots of fun too.

Not many spots for new authors in the publishing industry these days.

Mike finishes eating.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!
A Japanese Nintendo DS import that has one of the wackiest premises you've ever heard.

Always Sunny in Philadelphia's shady, but interesting, MySpace contest.

My use of the word "sporadically" reminds Mike of Clueless, and we discuss the film's merits as an icon of cultural literacy.

And here's what we talked about!

Why it's been so long...

The Doritos Godzilla commercial... WTF?

Using a crappy movie to sell products.

Do we just care too much about movies? Do other people care whether the movie being used in a commercial is good or not?

Or did they just think it's been long enough that people won't remember how crappy the movie was?

Mike segues to "Jag" and how that show repurposed footage from other movies.

We watch movies with "vigor".

I unexpectedly get a bloody nose, leading to "The Mike Show"

The air conditioning makes me bleed.

We decide to move past the Godzilla commercial. At least it was more original than anything in the actual movie.

My disappointment with seeing the Transformers (the animated movie) again after a long time.

The "Horror movie" cell phone commercial

We've got "The Shining" on in the background, and as great a movie as it is, the talking to the finger thing was pretty goofy.

We discuss the reasons that Kubrick may have left out the excellent Topiary scene from the book.

What would the revolutionary filmmakers of yesteryear be able to accomplish if they had access to the effects technology of today?

Would they have been equally ground-breaking, or were they men of their time?

The excellent VW Jetta "stereotype commercials

Earthlink's commercial contest, a good idea. If I was going to make an Earthlink commercial, what would it be?

Dial-up horror stories

Nike's advertising strategy makes Mike want to buy shoes that won't fit.

Mike interrupts my insightful point about the effects of technology in media by pointing out another commercial and I never come back to it.

The Nate and Di episode about their past as managers of a drive-in theater, and the surreality involved in seeing a place out of its usual context.
