Discussion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Avast! Thar be spoilers ahead!

Book 7 might be both our favorite.

Book 6 felt, in many ways, like a setup for 7 rather than a stand-alone story

Book 7 benefits from being the payoff to all seven books, rather than standing on its own.

Before reading Book 7, Mike and I revisited the discussion of Book 6 on my blog.

One of the biggest questions going in was of course, Snape: Friend or Foe

Resolution tied perfectly into the theme of the series: Love conquers hate

We thought that whole issue was very well done.

I have a bit of a nit-picky grumble about the Master Wand. The "BS" word is used.

She handled a lot of things right with the ending.

The "Rules" of magic

OMG! A "Last Action Hero" reference?!

Talking instead of fighting

Camping Coincidences and Plot Devices

Long Journeys

Choosing sides... Slytherin House, Draco.

The Selfishness of the Malfoy's

The deaths...

Relationship quibbles, Ginny Vs. Luna

The concept of horcruxes was cool

"The weird ugly baby"

Three cheers for Neville!

Mike's biggest pet peeve of the whole series: The Imposter Mad-Eye Moody

More Neville fandom

This concludes our book report

The books were about love, and not just romantic love, which is refreshing

It's official: Harry Potter is awesome.

Movie reviews continued...

We've both seen Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

We liked it.

The story was nicely condensed and not rushed

Director David Yates's TV background probably helped.

Opening scene was different than I expected

Could be more difficult to follow for people who have not read the books

Cinematic shorthand

Imelda Staunton was very good as Umbridge, a really original villain character, and GOD we hated her!

Evanna Lynch, the actress playing Luna was perfect. Luna is one of my favorite characters.

For such an angst-wridden story, the movie captures the moments of joy too.

In both the book and the film, I didn't like how Sirius's death was handled.

Mike defends it, (or at least plays Devil's Advocate) but I'm not convinced

Next time: We discuss Book 7 'til the Hallows come home!

Here's what we talked about...

A dearth of stuff

Frank Abagnale is speaking near me, but I can't go.

Business Travel

Scifi Smackdown Hiatus

Does "stuff" come in "pieces"?

Movie Review / Discussion: The Bourne Ultimatum

Is Jason Bourne the "Anti-Bond"?

We both enjoyed the film

Less "Shaky-cam"

Will they make another Bourne film?

Realism in Spy films

Bourne really shines in the action sequences

Best non-fantastical action movie in a while

We don't have much interest in Rush Hour 3

Christiana reviews Stardust

I loved it, everyone should go see it
