Talking About Stuff, with Mike and Christiana

Podcast #... well, what do you know? 100!

#100, how fitting that it is a Survivor Edition

The guys at Geekfit talk about me on their latest podcast, #17

I met them at the PME, but they saw me on Popcurrent.com

The Geekfit guys have really got their act together. They're more disciplined than I've been.

Mike met a guy at the gym that reminded him that we shouldn't make snap judgements about people.

I've been losing weight again. I'll talk more about it on One Pound at a Time

I read an email from Karen, formerly of Zee and Zed, now of Dry Shave

She's happy that Mike has "more fire in his belly" this season.

The diversity of the contestants may also be making the early part of the season more entertaining.

More on how both the "Asian" and "Hispanic" tribes are actually collections of many different cultures and ethnicities

I'm going to change the name of the show, because I don't do it by myself anymore.

Mike gets "permission" to be on the show from his roommate

We finally get to the "non-episode" clip show.

We're both irritated that they didn't say that was going to be a clip show.

Mike got suspicious that they weren't showing any commercials during the week

At least the new scenes showed things that were notably absent from other episodes. Clearly Mark Burnett listens to our show.

Billy, in addition to not working, was no good at being conniving.

He was doomed from the start.

They DID tell Nathan they were voting out JP! That changes everything!

He kept his protest vote, but he wasn't so against it that he told JP what was happening.

Stephanie had a really nice voice, but in retrospect, we like her less for enjoying her deception of JP so much.

So far, everyone who's been at risk at tribal council, but got spared, was only spared until the next episode.

"Protest votes"

This revelation changes Mike's feelings about Parvati too, because there was no betrayal.

Voting off JP was probably a bad move for the tribe, but he didn't help his own case.

Did Adam tell Christina she was "annoying" before tribal council? We think no. We think he was just trying to lie to get out of trouble.

I'm reminded of Ian from Palau, but I liked Ian more.

More footage of people on Exile Island. Candice marking out lines, Yul destroying the evidence, Adam just digging "wherever"

Yul and Cao Boi on being "Asian"

Jonathan commenting on being "white" but also being Jewish.

Was the Hiki tribe trying to use their boat without the outrigger?

Did the Raro tribe ever get their boat back?

For a clip show, it was pretty good, but we're not letting them off the hook for the preview fakeout

Then again, it's not like we're going to stop watching.

There have to be more multiple eliminations ahead. There are two "surplus" people

We speculate how they could occur.

Podcast #97 Episode 5 of Survivor Cook Islands

Episode 97 is online!

You can find the file itself right here: CTAS 97

In this episode, we talk about Episode 5 of Survivor: Cook Islands!

We get confused about the basics.

The strategy wasn't quite as crazy as last week, but another very strong episode.

Like last week, scenes before the credits. Seems to be the new structure.

The guys are stepping up the effort to stay in the game.

Generally speaking, we think it was the right thing to do, but I couldn't help but feel it was a defensive, reactive strategy.

Mike gives Nathan credit for not spending too much time being mad about the last vote.

Nathan and Parvati are not flirting anymore.

I still like Nathan, but there's an emotional part of me that thought he was not sad enough about trying to vote out Stephanie.

We both believe that Stephanie WAS ready to go. Maybe she didn't want to quit, but she was definitely kind of wanting to go home.

We feel a little sorry for Stephanie, but not like last week with JP.

Did Rebecca tip the vote during tribal council? Mike says yes, I didn't think it was quite as obvious.

This tribe is actually pretty united. There is some conflict, but there haven't been many close votes.

We don't think Christina ever knew she was on the chopping block.

Did Parvati "betray" Nathan?

Did we make the flirtation between them bigger than it really was?

This season seems to divide our opinions more than usual, which we see as a good thing.

Past disagreements: Stephanie versus Danni, my inability to cut Gary any slack

Strategies for the reward challenge: Who do you load the weights onto?

We liked Jessica's attempt to play head games during the challenge.

How cool would it be to be one of the challenge engineers?

They finally showed more Exile Island footage, and Jonathan's pretty sure the idol's been found.

We didn't see the festivities this time. Just a cut to empty wine bottles.

They should have a drinking contest challenge, like in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The expedition!

Was finding the other camp really "accidental"? Jessica had been there before.

Reprise of Cao Boi the crazy person.

They could have said something if they really thought Cao Boi was going on too long.

It's like how they didn't tell Christina that they were annoyed with her.

Did the Raro tribe overreact to the visit?

Ozzy's doing a good job of contributing without stirring up trouble.

Cao Boi's request for spices. A little brash, but can it hurt to ask?

It was like the silver medalist asking the gold medalist "Hey, can I wear that for a little while?"

Adam getting the octopus stuck on his foot was funny.

Christina's excuse for spilling some of the octopus was a little lame, though it didn't seem like she lost that much.

She didn't make a friend of Jenny, but we kind of feel like Jenny is the kind of person who trash-talks you behind your back.

What a cool immunity challenge!

Jessica has amazing balance.

We're mostly rooting for the Aitu tribe.

We realize that we were remembering part of the episode wrong

Was Adam really that upset about the other tribe visiting?

When Nathan mentioned Christina being bossy, it seemed like everyone else gave a sigh of relief.

In the real world, it's tacky to try to punish someone for something without actually talking to her about it.

Scenes from next time suggest that Christina is not handling things well.

Is Christina's outburst a Hispanic trait?

A double elimination next week.

In retrospect, the goofy GMC Yukon commercials last season were effective, because we remember the car.

Climbing mountains in Antarctica (Mount Vinson Map)

Mike attempts to ignore my Monty Python reference

The PME! General stuff first, then name-dropping later.

The PME was much smaller than DragonCon, but the proportion of people that I knew or at least had heard of was much bigger.

Two days was way too short. I didn't get to meet everybody, or spend as much time as I would have liked with those that I met.

I got to be on the Women in Podcasting panel with Shelly Brisbin, The Manic Mommies, Elsie Escobar, and Soccergirl

I was busy promoting Pickle Tales: Auditions will open on October 15th! Completely open to anybody who wants to enter!

I got to help with the Live episode of The Radio Adventures of Doctor Floyd.

Knowing is half the battle... the other half requires guns.

Ineffective cartoon laser bullets

Some funny GI Joe videos on Ebaum's world

PME2006 Flickr photos (I didn't take any, but lots of other people did.)

I get all podcastery about the PME.

I apologize in advance that I'm going to forget some people.

I forget that I had already talked about the Live show of The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd.

I'm typecast now. (Sign Holder for Dr. Floyd, Microphone stand for George Hrab)

Performances by Tim Coyne, Lance Anderson, Cush, and Dan Klass. Really impressed.

Dan Klass really made an impression on me. I would have liked to talk to him more.

The In-N-Out secret menu

I got to sit in on JVonD's live stream with Rob AKA nLinus and Chris from Vealchart.com

Met up with Tee Morris and Karen from California at the Dr. Floyd show.

We missed the Awards Ceremony because it was too noisy in there.

Andy and I had a round-about route getting to the Dawn-N-Drew party, but Showbiz Dad saved the day

Got to chat with Dawn and Drew and Soccergirl and Ryan and Rin and James Invincible

I got to hear some talk about the Podshow/Anti-Podshow schism from the Podshow perspective.

Steve Eley scared me a little bit when I told him about it.

Got to meet El Nacho and Nacho Senior.

A very passionate listener who had decided to do his own show!

The Libsyn party had been shut down by the time I got there.

Mark Jeffry from The Pocket and The Pendant and Popcurrent.com

Matt Wayne Selznick from Brave Men Run

Kevin C Mason from Coloring Outside the Lines

The Podcast Pickle Party was awesome!

I met up with my 2nd roommate there, Chris Fisher from the Adult Space Child Free Podcast

Meeting fans of Nina Kimberly was really cool.

In the last year, podcasting has changed my life. I can only imagine what is in store for this year.

I'm so glad that I went.

The podcast community is filled with some of the funniest, friendliest, smartest people I've ever known. Very huggy too.
